GTC Scotland and Learning for Sustainability Scotland launch new Professional Learning module
GTC Scotland, the teaching profession’s independent registration and regulation body in Scotland, has launched a second new Professional Learning module in partnership with Learning for Sustainability Scotland.
Learning for Sustainability in the Professional Standards: Taking a Deeper Dive is designed to help teachers explore and critically reflect on opportunities and approaches that support Learning for Sustainability (LfS) in their classroom and across their learning community.
This in-depth professional learning module introduces different LfS teaching and learning approaches, encourages participants to explore one of these approaches with their children and young people and then supports them to evaluate its impact. The module also asks teachers to consider LfS in relation to the wider learning community outside their classroom and the impact that their teaching can have in their setting and beyond.
The module is the second in a series of three learning modules as part of GTC Scotland’s Learning for Sustainability Hub. The Hub was launched earlier this year to support teachers to reflect on, engage with and enhance LfS in both their own practice and their wider learning community. This new Professional Learning module builds on the learning in module one and complements existing resources contained within the Hub; including Learning for Sustainability: A professional guide for teachers.
Dr Pauline Stephen, Chief Executive and Registrar, GTC Scotland said: “The teaching profession in Scotland sets high standards for itself. Learning for Sustainability is a core theme across the Professional Standards for Scotland’s Teachers, and is woven across all aspects, for all teachers: irrespective of the focus of their work or where they are on their career journey.”
“This professional learning module provides an excellent opportunity for teachers to expand their knowledge and understanding of Learning for Sustainability and embed new approaches in their teaching.”
Betsy King, Development Manager at Learning for Sustainability Scotland, said: “Learning for Sustainability Scotland is delighted to be working with GTC Scotland to support teachers with professional learning that enables them to enact and embed Learning for Sustainability in their practice. Learning for Sustainability is an approach to life and learning; inspiring and motivating learners to address the challenges of learning to live within the environmental limits of our planet and to build a just, equitable and peaceful society.”
