Having your say on…the GTC Scotland Accreditation Process and Requirements Review consultation

On Tuesday 03 March, Learning for Sustainability Scotland held an event to explore the current GTC Scotland Accreditation Process and Requirements Review consultation – and the need to ensure that Learning for Sustainability continues to be part of this.
The consultation will close on Thursday 12 March. Click here for more information.
Our response to the Consultation will be available in due course – and we warmly encourage you to submit your own response.
Why did we hold this event?
As the independent regulator for teachers in Scotland, GTC Scotland has responsibility for accrediting programmes of initial teacher education (ITE) and further education teaching qualification programmes for college lecturers (TQFE).
Our event was designed to:
- Support and encourage participants to submit their own informed, independent contributions to the Consultation (by the deadline of12th March 2026)
- Help you to find out more about the proposed accreditation process and requirements consultation proposed by GTC Scotland
- Encourage discussion and gather insights/perspectives on the format of the review and the place of Learning for Sustainability in this
- Collate input from participants to inform a response from LfSS to the Consultation
Learning for Sustainability – ‘a golden thread’
Learning for Sustainability is an entitlement for all learners aged 3-18 in Scotland and all Scottish schools are tasked with becoming Sustainable Learning Settings by 2030; as outlined in Scotland’s national Learning for Sustainability Action Plan. It is currently one of eleven proposed cross-cutting themes in the Curriculum Improvement Cycle, and much of the research commissioned by Scottish Government since the publication of the OECD Report into Scottish education in 2021 outlines the desire – and need – for LfS-related learning to form part of Scotland’s educational landscape.
The proposed GTC Scotland Accreditation Process and Requirements document does not, however, currently explicitly reference Learning for Sustainability.
