ESD in Colleges and Universities: Community of Practice meeting: "Developing and assessing student sustainability competencies:  theory, practice and stories."

Join us and EAUC for the first Education for Sustainable Development Community of Practice (ESD CoP) meeting of the new academic year.

Students need more than subject knowledge to thrive in a rapidly-changing world. They need the ability to think critically, work across disciplines, navigate uncertainty and contribute to a more sustainable future. But how can we assess these capabilities (often called competencies or transferable skills) effectively?

This Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) community of practice meeting will explore how educators in further and higher education are designing curricula and assessment to develop and evidence sustainability competencies. We will discuss both theory and practical approaches to competency-based learning outcomes and consider what this means for teaching practice.

Through case studies and peer discussion, participants will gain ideas and inspiration for embedding and assessing sustainability competencies in their own contexts. The meeting welcomes anyone with links to teaching – educators, sustainability leads, quality managers, CPD leads, estates staff all welcome!
