As part of the Scottish Government’s wider plans to improve the curriculum, qualifications and outcomes for young people, Qualifications Scotland is reforming qualifications in the senior phase — S4 to S6.

They are keen to hear from as many learners, educators, parents and carers across Scotland as possible, so that they understand their needs and experiences.

How do I respond?

Qualifications Scotland have launched stakeholder surveys for learners, educators, parents and carers. The survey findings will help to shape what senior phase qualifications look like in the future.

We would be grateful if you could:

  • Share the relevant surveys with your networks and, where appropriate, with the people or organisations you represent.
  • Encourage recipients to share the surveys with other learners, educators, parents and carers.
  • Ask people to complete each survey only once, even if they receive it through more than one source.

The surveys are available below, together with details of who is invited to respond.

1. Educators

Please use this form if you are currently teaching, or have previously taught, national and/or vocational qualifications delivered in the senior phase: https://www.smartsurvey.co.uk/t/LNZ0WM

2. Parents and carers

Please use this form if you are a parent or carer of learners currently in S4–S6: https://www.smartsurvey.co.uk/t/25FX0W/

3. Learners

Please use this form if you are a learner who are currently studying in S4–S6 or at college: https://www.smartsurvey.co.uk/t/CMZJQO/

Join the ‘Your Voice’ panels

Qualifications Scotland is also inviting learners, educators, parents and carers to volunteer to take part in research with them through their Your Voice panels.

Joining a panel does not commit anyone to taking part in research. Panel members can accept or decline invitations and can leave the panel at any time.

The following groups are eligible to sign up:

  • Anyone teaching or studying for a Qualifications Scotland qualification.
  • Parents and carers of learners in S4–S6.
  •  Learners in S4-S6

We would greatly appreciate your help in encouraging eligible learners, educators, parents and carers to join at Your Voice sign-up.

Co-design and further research

Qualifications Scotland plans to begin co-designing senior phase qualification models in early 2027. To support this work, they will need to recruit a large number of individual participants and work with stakeholder organisations.
