On Tuesday 25 August, we were delighted to co-deliver an online professional learning session for inspectors from His Majesty’s Inspectorate of Education (HMIE).

Created and delivered in partnership with colleagues from HMIE, the University of Edinburgh and Education Scotland – and featuring input from expert practitioners from across the 3-18 learning continuum – the session had a focus on ‘Learning for Sustainability: Policy, Research and Practice’.

During the session, participants heard more about:

  • Policy: the national and international importance of Learning for Sustainability as an entitlement for all children and young people aged 3-18 in Scotland – and its place in the Curriculum Improvement Cycle.
  • Research: findings from the national educators’ survey led by University of Edinburgh, University of Stirling, and UCL on behalf of the Scottish Deans of Education.
  • Practice: examples how Learning for Sustainability is woven across learning for children and young people in Scotland; with input from early years, primary, secondary, and additional support needs experts.

A question and answer session then followed, and the session concluded with signposting to additional resources, professional reading – and more professional learning opportunities from Learning for Sustainability Scotland.
