RCE status achieved
It is with great pleasure that we can announce that the RCE Scotland application bid was successful.
This year there were 32 RCE applications submitted for consideration from across the world, 15 from Europe, and the UNU have acknowledged 15 new RCEs for official announcement in January 2013. This will bring the total number of RCEs in the global network up to 116 of which Scotland is now a member.
The UN University ‘Ubuntu Peers Group’ met in Japan and approved the application unconditionally. However, the group also made three optional suggestions for future development:
- ‘Regional chapters’ or satellite hubs, as it was acknowledged that although a Scotland-wide approach for the RCE was most appropriate, it is still a large, diverse region and chapters could help improve outreach across the region.
- The ‘value added’ of the RCE, as Scotland is already leading many ESD activities.
- Expanding partnerships to include wider representation, especially for involvement in key project areas and governance development.
The recommendations were all very positive and in line with our submitted proposals, so we are looking forward to updating the UNU on progress in these areas in the new year. However, if you have any ideas of how the RCE could begin to address the areas above, or indeed any other immediate priorities we would be very grateful to receive your feedback.
This achievement could only have been made through the input of all partner organisations, so thank you all once again for your help and support throughout the application process.
We look forward to working with you all in the future through the new RCE Scotland and hope you will be able to join us in January at the launch event (23/01/13 – more information to follow).
