SUMMARY:Live at COP28
DESCRIPTION:We’re delighted to be running our ‘Live at the COP’ MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) once again. Since its first iteration in 2021 for COP26\, over 10\,000 people from over 160 countries have taken part in this collaborative\, facilitated learning opportunity. \n\n\n\nThe course will run during the United Nations COP28 Climate Change Conference which takes place in the United Arab Emirates between 30 November to 14 December. \n\n\n\nThis course offers you an opportunity to examine what COP28 is\, why it’s considered to be important and reflect on how you can add your voice to the call for collective action for a sustainable future. \n\n\n\nThroughout the course\, we will share ‘live’ insights into the issues being discussed at COP28\, as well as responses to the conference themes from children and young people\, community groups and ministerial bodies\, both nationally and internationally. Using these ‘starting points’\, we will invite you to reflect on what you have heard\, watched and read\, and think about what these conversations and issues mean to you. \n\n\n\nCourse content from Live at COP28 will remain open\, free and accessible as a legacy resource for school\, community and individual use beyond COP28. \n\n\n\nSign up here now. SUMMARY:Education for Sustainable Development Topic Support Network: Becoming nature and climate confident
DESCRIPTION:We welcome all staff in further and higher education with an interest in learning and teaching to the November 2023 Education for Sustainable Development Topic Support Network (ESD TSN)\, delivered in partnership with EAUC Scotland: The Alliance for Sustainability Leadership in Education. \n\n\n\nWhy this topic and what to expect: While sustainability is all about the interconnections between the social\, economic\, and environmental\, we have heard some of you telling us that specifically integrating complex environmental topics into your teaching is tricky. While there is some great stuff happening – especially around tangible issues such as waste and recycling – teaching about more ‘abstract-feeling’ aspects like climate change or biodiversity can feel daunting when we don’t feel like we are experts in these fields.  \n\n\n\nIn this TSN\, we want to explore ways you can build confidence to integrate these topics into your teaching – both through gaining knowledge as well as through using teaching methods that allow you to feel comfortable with not knowing everything. We’ll have speakers from university and college contexts talking about their work as well as facilitated discussions with your peers. \n\n\n\nAgenda and speaker announcement coming soon – click here to sign up. \n\n\n\nAs always\, the event is free for EAUC members. Unsure if you’re a member or struggling to book? Get in touch with info@eauc.org.uk.

DESCRIPTION:Learning for Sustainability is an international and national priority in education. \n\n\n\nMaking a professional commitment to learning and learners that is compatible with the aspiration of achieving a sustainable and equitable world embodies what it is to be a teacher in Scotland. \n\n\n\nIn Scotland\, the Professional Standards for teachers are underpinned by Learning for Sustainability as a key cross-cutting theme; interdependent with the other key cross-cutting themes of Values and Leadership. \n\n\n\nJoin us and the General Teaching Council for Scotland at our monthly drop-in sessions to connect with other practitioners and contributors to share\, celebrate and discuss more about Learning for Sustainability and what it means for you\, your practice\, your setting and your wider learning community. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nAbout this session\n\n\n\nWhat Learning for Sustainability values are needed when applying to become a teacher in Scotland? \n\n\n\nThis session will be an opportunity for participants to contribute to Education Policy through the lens of Learning for Sustainability. \n\n\n\nSuzy Aldous from GTC Scotland will be engaging with you on the current review of ‘The Memorandum on Entry Requirements to Programmes of Initial Teacher Education’. \n\n\n\nThis key policy looks at the values and qualifications that are the minimum entry requirements to programmes of Initial Teacher Education. In this Connect session we will have an opportunity to review the policy and give input on what is needed to ensure that Learning for Sustainability is woven across the expectations of teachers entering the profession today. \n\n\n\nWe ask that you take some time\, if possible\, ahead of the session to familiarise yourself with the Memorandum of Understanding. \n\n\n\nClick here to reserve your FREE place.

SUMMARY:Monitoring and evaluating education for sustainable development in Higher Education workshop (academics\, coordinators\, support staff)
DESCRIPTION:Measuring\, monitoring and evaluating Education for Sustainable Development is an important task. It helps us to show where we are at\, the impact we’re having\, and find out what and where we need to improve. \n\n\n\nAs part of a QAA funded Collaborative Enhancement project\, the University of St Andrews; in partnership with EAUC Scotland\, LfSS\, sparqs\, SOS UK\, and University of Edinburgh\, have developed a flexible 6-step framework that provides guidance on monitoring and evaluating ESD in higher education – including looking at mapping\, quality\, depth\, and impacts. The outcomes also include a handbook and two workshops run by QAA. The workshops are free for QAA members and non-members to join and are open to all\, with the two workshops having a slightly different target group. \n\n\n\nThis second workshop aims to: \n\n\n\n\nincrease awareness of the framework with those who will be directly coordinating or running the monitoring of sustainability in learning and teaching\, e.g. curriculum leads or programme coordinators\, as well as general sustainability officers/leads with a responsibility or interest in teaching. \n\n\n\nfacilitates the sharing of experiences in enabling ESD and discussion of how the Framework might be adapted at your own institution. \n\n\n\n\nThe event is open to anyone to attend. The project and outcomes are\, however\, currently university-focused and will likely be more relevant to higher education institutions. \n\n\n\nFind out more and book your (free) place here \n\n\n\nYou may also be interested in our additional event for Senior Managers.

SUMMARY:Learning for Sustainability and the National Outcomes for Scotland
DESCRIPTION:What kind of Scotland do you want to see? \n\n\n\nHave your say on the blueprint for Scotland – the National Performance Framework. \n\n\n\nScotland’s National Performance Framework was revised and published in 2018. It contains eleven National Outcomes that shape both national and local policy – and all of these are aligned to the UN Sustainable Development Goals. \n\n\n\nThe Scottish Government wants to hear from people and communities across Scotland about whether the Framework – and the National Outcomes it contains – continues to reflect the kind of Scotland we want to see. They would also like to hear about how the National Performance Framework could have a bigger impact. \n\n\n\nWe warmly invite our members to join Learning for Sustainability Scotland and the Scottish Government on Tuesday\, 23 May to hear more and be part of the discussion. \n\n\n\nYou will have the opportunity to: \n\n\n\n\nHear more about the Scottish Government’s consultation on the review of Scotland’s National Outcomes\n\n\n\nDiscuss and share your vision for Learning for Sustainability and the Outcomes with other members\n\n\n\nHear more about how Learning for Sustainability Scotland will use the outputs of this session to respond to this consultation on behalf of members\n\n\n\nFind out how you can share your own response to the consultation.\n\n\n\n\nClick here to book your place.
