SUMMARY:'Learning for a Sustainable Future': free online learning for all
DESCRIPTION:This highly-successful 5-week\, free\, open-access MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) is back! \n\n\n\nIn 2021\, over 3\,000 learners from over 100 countries took part and we are delighted to once again be offering it to participants across the world. We are very grateful to be working in partnership with The University of Edinburgh and British Council to bring you this course. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis course supports you to reflect\, investigate\, discuss and develop an informed response to the global challenges that matter to you. Taking a personalised issue-based approach\, you will have the opportunity to further investigate the diverse causes\, impacts\, and multiple social and political factors related to a sustainability issue that you feel is important; before making an informed response towards taking action\, in whatever form that may take.  Recognising that we will all come to this course from various starting points and with a range of perspectives\, we have created space for community discussions where we can share our own contexts\, issues and experiences and learn with and from one another. The course also offers an opportunity to reflect and discuss the teaching and learning approaches we offer whilst creating space to hear the ways in which you are working\, or may wish to work\, with your learners\, whomever they may be. \n\n\n\nFind out more and sign up here. We look forward to welcoming you!

SUMMARY:‘Climate Sisters: bringing women’s voices to the climate table’
DESCRIPTION:Exhibition: Greyfriars Charteris Centre\, Edinburgh\, EH8 9RR\n\n\n\nPlease note that the exhibition will not be open on Saturday 24 September due to a closed event. \n\n\n\nThe Climate Sisters are a group of thirteen women which formed in 2020 during a climate leadership course where\, through discussion and collaboration\, they each developed creative responses to aspects of climate justice and other sustainability issues they cared about. \n\n\n\nThrough the Women’s Environmental Network (WEN)\, the project gained support from the Joseph Rowntree Charitable Trust\, Care International and Action Aid UK. Additionally\, the University of Glasgow provided mentors to help the women to develop and create their ideas\, and the University of Edinburgh documented the project in conversation with young people from SCOREscotland through two films; bringing their collective stories into the ‘Learning for a Sustainable Future’ series of MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses). These collaborations enabled the women to develop their varied ideas\, make them a reality and share them widely. \n\n\n\n\n\nThis exhibition offers an opportunity to interact with each of the creative pieces produced by the Climate Sisters which include poetry\, music\, podcasts\, sculptures\, paintings\, jewellery\, filmmaking\, fashion and photography. \n\n\n\nIt is open\, free of charge\, 10am until 16:00 daily* from 22nd – 29th September at the Greyfriars Charteris Centre\, 138 The Pleasance\, Edinburgh\, EH8 9RR. \n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n\n\n\n*The exhibition will not be open on Saturday 24 September due to a closed event.

SUMMARY:Collaboration to scale up community action on sustainability
DESCRIPTION:Click here to book your place \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nMany public sector bodies\, including local authorities\, have a mandate to support sustainability action and to facilitate community engagement in their regions. At the same time\, many community-led initiatives and intentional communities are developing creative regenerative practices. The aim of this workshop is to explore how we can scale up community efforts through collaboration\, especially between communities and local authorities but also involving other actors. We will draw on the results and tools developed in an Erasmus Plus project and pilot their use in Scotland and beyond. \n\n\n\nThe Ecovillage Transition in Action project \n\n\n\nWe are delighted to be able to offer this workshop from our Erasmus Plus-funded project Ecovillage Transition in Action (ETiA). We are coming towards the end of this innovative\, international project and we are looking forward to sharing the results of our hard work with different audiences and seeing how they might support your work. \n\n\n\nThe project developed through the partnership of the Global Ecovillage Network (GEN)\, GEN Deutschland\, Hurdal Ecovillage\, ECOLISE and University of St Andrews\, Scotland. We comprised a group including facilitators\, trainers and academics. All of us had experience of living and working in a community\, and most of us had worked with or in local authorities\, NGOs and global organisations such as UNESCO. \n\n\n\nThe project researched the following questions: \n\n\n\nHow do we scale up regenerative practices that are developed and implemented in community-led initiatives such as Ecovillages and Transition Towns? How do we implement and embed local authority sustainability policies in communities? How do we support thriving collaborations to collectively achieve sustainability transitions beyond the community level?\n\n\n\nThe team produced a Handbook\, along with a Trainers’ handbook\, a Toolkit of resources and a Navigation tool to facilitate better collaboration between community led initiatives and local authorities and other partners and to enable them to co-create a better future.  In this workshop we will explore how to thrive and scale through collaboration\, using these tools and more. \n\n\n\nWorkshop detail \n\n\n\nThe meeting will take place online 18th August 12:00 to 13:30 in collaboration with Sustainable Scotland Network and Learning for Sustainability Scotland. \n\n\n\nClick here to book your place.

SUMMARY:Co-creating a Fair and Green Future with Young People: Learning for Sustainability in Action
DESCRIPTION:Co-hosted in partnership with YouthLink Scotland\, this interactive webinar explores how to work with young people to envision and co-create a sustainable future in their own communities\, and to become active change agents. \n\n\n\nCOP 26 demonstrated that young people are vocal and active\, demanding urgent and decisive change and holding leaders accountable\, in particular to address the climate\, nature and social justice crises. They have\, and continue to envision\, creative and ingenious solutions to sustainability challenges. What is required for successful inter-generational co-creation of a fair and green future? How can we ensure that young people’s voices are heard and acted on\, in response to the current challenges that we all face? \n\n\n\nThis session will be relevant for teachers\, community and youth work practitioners working with young people in formal and informal settings. SUMMARY:Join the LfS conversation: monthly Drop-In sessions with GTC Scotland
DESCRIPTION:Learning for Sustainability is an international and national priority in education. \n\n\n\nIn Scotland\, the Professional Standards for Teachers are underpinned by Learning for Sustainability as a key cross-cutting theme; interdependent with the other key cross-cutting themes of Values and Leadership. \n\n\n\nWe’re working with GTC Scotland to develop a Learning for Sustainability Hub to help teachers to explore\, engage and enact & embed Learning for Sustainability in their practice. \n\n\n\nAs part of this new Hub\, we warmly invite you to connect with other teachers and contributors to collaborate on\, inspire\, inform and celebrate Learning for Sustainability across your teaching\, setting and learning community. \n\n\n\nWe will be offering several different ways in which to do this; including our new monthly Drop-In sessions. Join us for the first of these on 17 March from 4-5pm. \n\n\n\nSign up here: https://tinyurl.com/mre55hhx \n\n\n\n#ThisisLfS \n\n\n\n#TimeforLfS
