The aim of the SDGs is to encourage all countries to implement the necessary transformational environmental\, economic and social change to achieve peace and prosperity for planet and people. Scottish Government was one of the first to sign up to the Goals and they now underpin the National Outcomes. \n“By 2030\, ensure that all learners acquire the knowledge and skills needed to promote sustainable development.”  \nUN 2015 \nHow can the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) support us in our work? How can we contribute to the delivery of the SDGs in Scotland and beyond? \nIn the context of the upcoming National Review of progress on the SDGs this workshop will: \n\noffer a critical introduction to the emergence of the SDGs\,\ncapture case studies of relevant work underway and\nexplore how Learning for Sustainability can help us appreciate the interconnectedness of the SDGs more widely.

DESCRIPTION:“There can have been very little thinking\, writing or policy development in the sustainability education field\, world -wide over the last 30 years that has not been informed to some extent by Stephen’s work. The impact on practitioners has been immense”. \nDr Stephen Sterling is: \n\nEmeritus Professor of Sustainability Education at the Centre for Sustainable Futures\, University of Plymouth\, UK.\nFormer Senior Advisor to the UK Higher Education Academy on Education for Sustainable Development (ESD)\,\na National Teaching Fellow\,\n\nHe has worked in environmental and sustainability education in the academic and NGO fields nationally and internationally for over four decades\, including as a consultant and advisor on UNESCO’S ESD programmes. \nHe is currently co-chair of the UNESCO-Japan Prize on ESD International Jury\, and a Distinguished Fellow of the Schumacher Institute.  He is widely published in this area\, the most recent book being Post-Sustainability and Environmental Education: Remaking Education for the Future\,  (co-edited with Bob Jickling\, Pivot/Palgrave\, 2017). \nFor further information contact: beth.christie@ed.ac.uk  \n
