SUMMARY:Rethinking Scotland's National Outcomes Framework
DESCRIPTION:(Hybrid event – online or in-person at the University of Strathclyde\, Glasgow) \n\n\n\nJoin Scotland’s International Development Alliance\, the University of Strathclyde\, the SDG Network Scotland and other partners including Learning for Sustainability Scotland\, at a hybrid discussion on Monday 30 March\, 09:30–12:30 to share your views on reforming and renewing Scotland’s National Performance Framework. \n\n\n\nWhat is this event about?\n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n\nScotland’s National Performance Framework is being redesigned. We have a chance to influence what comes next – and make sure the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are at the heart of how Scotland measures success. \n\n\n\nThe Deputy First Minister has set out proposals for six high-level National Outcomes\, cross-cutting perspectives (or “lenses”)\, and a stronger focus on “ways of working” and implementation. \n\n\n\nThe NPF could be a vital tool for policy coherence\, helping Scotland deliver on the SDGs and align public and private action. Does the current proposal get us there? What is missing\, and what would make implementation real rather than rhetorical? \n\n\n\nWe will use the Government’s own prompts as a starting point\, including how your work connects to the proposed outcomes\, how cross-cutting perspectives should be reflected\, and what stronger accountability\, transparency and culture change could look like in practice. \n\n\n\nIf you care about how Scotland sets direction\, measures what matters\, and makes long-term decisions\, please come along – either in-person or online – and add your voice. \n\n\n\nClick here to find out more and book your place.

SUMMARY:Have your say on...Learning for Sustainability in the GTC Scotland Accreditation Process and Requirements review consultation
DESCRIPTION:About this Consultation\n\n\n\nGTC Scotland has launched a consultation on proposed changes to its Accreditation Policy. \n\n\n\nAs the independent regulator for teachers in Scotland\, it also has responsibility for accrediting programmes of initial teacher education (ITE) and setting the minimum entry requirements for these programmes. It has also become a legal requirement for college lecturers to register with GTC Scotland and for further education teaching qualification programmes (TQFE) to be accredited. \n\n\n\nThe draft policy aims to provide a streamlined source of information and guidance that clearly sets out what the process for accrediting teaching qualification programmes is\, why it’s necessary\, and what GTC Scotland’s expectations in overseeing it are. \n\n\n\nThe consultation is open until 5pm on 12 March 2026\, and responses can be submitted via an online questionnaire.  \n\n\n\nTo learn more about the consultation and to review the documents\, please visit the consultation page.  \n\n\n\nWhat are the aims of this event?\n\n\n\nJoin Learning for Sustainability Scotland and contributors from Scotland’s Initial Teacher Education community on Tuesday 03 March. Our event aims to: \n\n\n\n\nSupport and encourage participants to submit their own informed\, independent contributions to the Consultation (by the deadline of 12th March 2026)\n\n\n\nShare more about the proposed accreditation process and requirements consultation proposed by GTC Scotland\n\n\n\nEncourage discussion and gather insights/perspectives on the format of the review and the place of Learning for Sustainability in this\n\n\n\nCollate input from participants to inform a response from LfSS to the Consultation\n\n\n\n\nHow do I find out more and sign up?\n\n\n\nClick here to book your free place. SUMMARY:Educating for a Healthy Planet and People: Strengthening Partnerships on the Road to COP30
DESCRIPTION:Join us and colleagues from the Planetary Health Alliance as we explore the role of Planetary Health education in preparing societies for the urgent transitions demanded by the climate crisis; aligning with COP30’s agenda\, the broader UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)\, and building upon the Planetary Health Educational Framework\, developed by the Planetary Health Alliance. \n\n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n\nAs humanity faces converging crises—from climate change and biodiversity loss to pandemics and food insecurity—it is increasingly clear that the health of people is inseparable from the health of the planet. Planetary Health offers an integrated\, transdisciplinary framework that addresses these interconnected challenges by placing human well-being within the context of Earth’s natural systems. While COP30 (to be held in Belém\, Brazil in 2025) represents a critical political moment to advance climate action globally\, education remains a powerful yet under-utilised lever for long-term transformation. Embedding Planetary Health into education systems—from primary schools to professional training—can empower citizens\, leaders\, and communities with the knowledge\, values\, and skills necessary to co-create a sustainable and equitable future. \n\n\n\nClick here for full details and to reserve your FREE place. Who is the event for?\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n● Educators\, researchers\, and students● Policymakers in all related areas● Youth and student organizations● Civil society and environmental NGOs● Indigenous leaders and traditional knowledge holders● International organizations (e.g.\, WHO\, UNESCO\, UNEP) \n\n\n\nWhat are the expected outcomes?\n\n\n\n● A shared understanding of the importance of Planetary Health education for climate action.● A set of recommendations to feed into the official COP30 processes and legacy initiatives.● Strengthened networks among educators\, institutions\, and civil society committed to transforming education for a healthy planet.● A public-facing communiqué or declaration on Planetary Health Education for COP30. \n\n\n\nClick here for full details and to reserve your FREE place. Supporting partners and organisations:\n\n\n\nPlanetary Health AllianceUniversity of São PauloPlanetary Health Brazil NetworkScotland’s United Nations University recognised Regional Centre of Expertise on Education for Sustainable Development – Learning for Sustainability Scotland

SUMMARY:Have your say on... Scotland's draft Environment Strategy
DESCRIPTION:The Scottish Government’s draft Environment Strategy sets out a framework for delivering Scotland’s role in tackling the global crises of nature loss\, climate change and pollution. Through it\, Scotland has the opportunity to create new opportunities for jobs\, businesses and investment\, improve people’s health and wellbeing\, tackle poverty\, and promote social justice. \n\n\n\nThe draft of this strategy is currently under consultation; and Learning for Sustainability Scotland and EAUC Scotland are working together to draft a response. \n\n\n\n\nBut we want to hear from YOU. \n\n\n\nEducation and learning have a huge role to play in achieving this vision. Help us showcase and celebrate what education across Scotland is already doing – and identify and highlight what else it could do with the right support. \n \n \n \n \n\n\n\nAnyone working or learning in an early years\, school\, college\, university. or community setting is welcome. Whether you’re from a teaching\, research or operational background – or a learner yourself – join us and share your perspective and insights. We’ll also share pointers and a template to help you easily draft your own response. \n\n\n\nLet’s all have our say on a strategy for a sustainable Scotland. \n\n\n\nWe look forward to welcoming you at 16:00 on Tuesday 09 September – and to hearing your thoughts. SUMMARY:Shaping the future: discussing the Wellbeing and Sustainable Development (Scotland) Bill
DESCRIPTION:“The Scottish Government recognises the duty to protect the interests of future generations. We also recognise that our ability to have a thriving society and economy is derived from the health of the planet. \n\n\n\nContinually improving Scotland’s National Outcomes is one of the ways we can achieve these aims and ensure that we are able to deliver long-term and sustainable policy and delivery approaches. To do this\, we need responses from people and organisations across Scotland.” \n\n\n\nJoin us and colleagues from Scottish Government as we explore and shape a response to the consultation on the proposed Wellbeing and Sustainable Development (Scotland) Bill. \n\n\n\nThis ‘aims to improve decision making and the implementation of the National Performance Framework to ensure that all policy and delivery accounts for wellbeing and sustainable development.’ \n\n\n\nWe look forward to welcoming you to this timely and useful discussion. This report from the Scottish Leaders’ Forum may also be of interest in preparing for this event. \n\n\n\nBook your place here.

DESCRIPTION:We welcome all staff in further and higher education with an interest in learning and teaching to the November 2023 Education for Sustainable Development Topic Support Network (ESD TSN)\, delivered in partnership with EAUC Scotland: The Alliance for Sustainability Leadership in Education. \n\n\n\nWhy this topic and what to expect: While sustainability is all about the interconnections between the social\, economic\, and environmental\, we have heard some of you telling us that specifically integrating complex environmental topics into your teaching is tricky. While there is some great stuff happening – especially around tangible issues such as waste and recycling – teaching about more ‘abstract-feeling’ aspects like climate change or biodiversity can feel daunting when we don’t feel like we are experts in these fields.  \n\n\n\nIn this TSN\, we want to explore ways you can build confidence to integrate these topics into your teaching – both through gaining knowledge as well as through using teaching methods that allow you to feel comfortable with not knowing everything. We’ll have speakers from university and college contexts talking about their work as well as facilitated discussions with your peers. \n\n\n\nAgenda and speaker announcement coming soon – click here to sign up. \n\n\n\nAs always\, the event is free for EAUC members. Unsure if you’re a member or struggling to book? Get in touch with info@eauc.org.uk.

SUMMARY:Monitoring and evaluating education for sustainable development in Higher Education workshop (Senior Managers)
DESCRIPTION:Measuring\, monitoring and evaluating Education for Sustainable Development is an important task. It helps us to show where we are at\, the impact we’re having\, and find out what and where we need to improve. \n\n\n\nAs part of a QAA funded Collaborative Enhancement project\, the University of St Andrews; in partnership with EAUC Scotland\, LfSS\, sparqs\, SOS UK\, and University of Edinburgh\, have developed a flexible 6-step framework that provides guidance on monitoring and evaluating ESD in higher education – including looking at mapping\, quality\, depth\, and impacts. The outcomes also include a handbook and two workshops run by QAA. The workshops are free for QAA members and non-members to join and are open to all\, with the two workshops having a slightly different target group. \n\n\n\nThis first workshop aims to: \n\n\n\n\n increase awareness of the framework among senior managers with a responsibility for education\, including for example Vice Principals\n\n\n\ngive them an overview of how the Framework works\n\n\n\nincrease institutional buy-in for ESD\, and to allow for the support and encouragement of staff to monitor and evaluate their work. \n\n\n\n\nFind out more and book your (free) place here. \n\n\n\nThe event is open to anyone to attend. The project and outcomes are\, however\, currently university-focused and will likely be more relevant to higher education institutions. \n\n\n\nYou may also be interested in our additional event for academics\, coordinators and support staff.

SUMMARY:Learning for Sustainability and the National Outcomes for Scotland
DESCRIPTION:What kind of Scotland do you want to see? \n\n\n\nHave your say on the blueprint for Scotland – the National Performance Framework. \n\n\n\nScotland’s National Performance Framework was revised and published in 2018. It contains eleven National Outcomes that shape both national and local policy – and all of these are aligned to the UN Sustainable Development Goals. \n\n\n\nThe Scottish Government wants to hear from people and communities across Scotland about whether the Framework – and the National Outcomes it contains – continues to reflect the kind of Scotland we want to see. They would also like to hear about how the National Performance Framework could have a bigger impact. \n\n\n\nWe warmly invite our members to join Learning for Sustainability Scotland and the Scottish Government on Tuesday\, 23 May to hear more and be part of the discussion. \n\n\n\nYou will have the opportunity to: \n\n\n\n\nHear more about the Scottish Government’s consultation on the review of Scotland’s National Outcomes\n\n\n\nDiscuss and share your vision for Learning for Sustainability and the Outcomes with other members\n\n\n\nHear more about how Learning for Sustainability Scotland will use the outputs of this session to respond to this consultation on behalf of members\n\n\n\nFind out how you can share your own response to the consultation.\n\n\n\n\nClick here to book your place.
