NEW TEACHING PACKAGE LAUNCHED: CHANGING OUR CHILDREN’S CHOICES TO TACKLE AIR POLLUTION
Teaching children about the contribution travel choices make to air pollution is the best way to change attitudes and behaviours for the future. That’s the message behind a new online air quality teaching package, which is being made freely available to all schools in Scotland.
Produced by the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) and North Lanarkshire Council, in consultation with Education Scotland, www.learnaboutair.com contains a series of geography and science activities and practical experiments for primary and secondary schools, designed to encourage pupils to think about air quality and how it affects them and their families. Schools can also borrow an air quality sensor to record raw air quality data from around their school.

GREEN ASPIRATIONS SCOTLAND WINS HERITAGE LOTTERY FUND SUPPORT FOR WOODLAND FUTURES PROJECT.
Green Aspirations Scotland is pleased to announce that it has been successful in receiving £42,700 to deliver an exciting programme of rural skills & heritage crafts that will connect young people with their natural heritage and inspire careers in their local environment. Making a connection with their natural heritage and learning skills to look after it, young people will be equipped to become champions of the natural heritage in the future.

HIGHLAND SCHOOLS GET TO GRIPS WITH THE UN SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS.
After the release of the United Nation Sustainable Development Goals, schools across Scotland have been working on SDG related projects and pupils have been drilling into them to work out what the goals mean to them individually and in a broader community. Primary 7 children at Crown Primary in Inverness have had some wonderful results with their project after each child was allocated a specific goal and created a journal around it. Some of the results can be seen here.
PORTREE PRIMARY SCHOOL AWARDED 3rd ECO GREEN FLAG.
An assessment completed earlier in the year highlighted the great work of the Garden Club, the strong relationships across the community to support Eco work, the monitoring of waste and the environmental links across the curriculum used to develop learning. The picture shows members of the school’s Eco Committee and Donald Gillies the Janitor, displaying their new Green Flag in the garden area at the school.
#FAIRERSCOTLAND EVENTS: FAIRER GREENER SCOTLAND BY 2030: IDEAS? CONSULTATION EVENT TO BE HELD ON 25 NOVEMBER IN EDINBURGH AND 1 DECEMBER, GLASGOW.
You are invited to come & explore sustainability and social justice issues relating to the Fairer Scotland consultations. The event will ask delegates to imagine what they would like to see in 2030 and to establish the values important to us all. The event will feed into the Fairer Scotland consultation and will help shape a plan for 2030.
The events will be attended by local & national government representatives (including Dr. Aileen McLeod, minister for Environment, Climate Change and Land Reform at the Edinburgh event) and will be a wonderful opportunity to engage in the dialogue on a wide range of social, economic, environmental justice, equality and international topics of common concern.

LfS SCOTLAND STEERING GROUP ELECTIONS PENDING AND WE NEED…
Being part of the LfS Scotland Steering Group is wonderful way to strengthen your skills and networks whilst helping to strengthen Scotland’s learning for sustainability community. Our Steering Group members serve for a period of two years and at this year’s AGM on 8 December we will be hosting a member vote for representation for the next two years.
